This is a Bible study tool designed to take us through the entire Bible in 2 years. Six days a week (Monday through Saturday) there will be a post telling you what the assigned readings are. Some days there will also be comments from me. These are intended to provide material for devotional meditation and practical application. Please feel welcome to post questions or comments so that we can encourage each other. May God bless our study!
In today's two readings, we clearly see the First Commandment at work, from a positive perspective (Chronicles) and a negative perspective (Isaiah). "You shall have no other gods."
In Chronicles, God asks Solomon, "Ask what I shall give you?" All Solomon asks for is "wisdom and knowledge". Solomon didn't ask for great wealth or possessions. He trusted in God, and placed him first. In return God gave him all of the above; wisdom, knowledge, wealth, and possessions. Chronicles shows the rewards of keeping the First Commandment.
Isaiah 31 immediately begins, "Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the LORD!" The prophet Isaiah's first word warns of the ramifications of not keeping the First Commandment.
I just found it interesting how the two readings today were so different in nature, but so similar in theme.
