What to Expect

Here's what to expect if you use this blog as your Bible study tool. Beginning on 09/09/09 there will be a post each day to tell you which 2 readings from Scripture are assigned, and then some words from me to help explain parts of the text or their application. One reading will be some words from the Bible's poetry (Psalms, Song of Songs, and others) or wisdom literature (Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes, and others). The second reading will be a reading from the Old or New Testaments, often a narrative (found in the history books or gospels) or an exhortation (found in the prophets or epistles). After finishing an Old Testament book, we'll switch to a New Testament book. This will accomplish two things: 1) it will break up the long O.T. so we do not become weary, and 2) it will help us see the relationship between Old and New Testaments. Each reading will be about one chapter in length, so you will be reading only 2 chapters a day - a very manageable amount. Having the two readings each day will ensure that we should be able to "get something out of it," as some might say. You see, occasionally there may be a genealogy or list of tribes that makes up one whole chapter. This is still God's good Word, and there are points that can be drawn from these lists, but it will be good to have a second reading to provide material that is (perhaps) easier for us to relate to. So, for example, on 09/09/09 when we begin, we will read Psalm 1 and Genesis 1. On day 2 we will read Psalm 2 and Genesis 2. And so that we don't get too predictable, we'll mix it up some too. May God bless our study!
